Oh No, the Balloon Popped

Written by Christy Whitman November 28, 2012

One day, Frederic and I took the boys in the wagon to a nearby soccer field to play with an extra large balloon. It was one of those balloons you can punch that has a tie at the end. We brought it to play with and let the boys run around and be silly with it. I really did not think that through, and the minute we took the balloon out and it fell onto the grass, it popped.

If you have ever seen a child’s mood immediately change, it is when a balloon pops. Alex was very upset and said, “We don’t have any more balloons.” I knew this was a teachable moment on abundance.

“Alex, we have another balloon at home.”
“We don’t have the blue balloon.”
“You know you always can get another blue balloon?”
“No.”
“Yes you can, because you are abundant. Whenever we run out of balloons or another one pops, we can go to a balloon store and they will have more and more balloons. Do you know why?”
“Why?”
“Because you are abundant.”

We all broke out into the abundance song, “I am abundant. Doopie. Doopie. Doopie.”

This changed his mood and we continued on with our fun at the soccer field.
