Mommy, Why are you talking?

Alex was trying to tell me that Maxim took his toy from him. We had just walked into the playroom, so from my perspective I didn’t see how Maxim could take a toy away from Alex when he did not have it in the first place.

Alex was trying to explain and I jumped in and said, “You weren’t playing with it.”

He then said, “Mommy, can I tell you something?”

“Yes, Alex.”

He started again explaining himself and I jumped in again. He stopped me and said, “Mommy, why are you talking when I am talking?”

All I could do was eat some humble pie and apologize for interrupting him.

If we are to teach our children to listen, we have to remember to listen to them too. It was a big moment for me as a mom.
