“I don’t know what I am doing. I don’t want to mess this up.”

I was conducting an interview with a man regarding toddlers and money. His daughter was three years old and he turned to me and said, “I don’t know what I am doing. I don’t want to mess this up.” It then occurred to me how many parents (especially new first-time parents) have this fear.

I know it was a big fear for me when I became a parent. Especially since I really had to do a lot of personal growth on myself over the last fifteen years. I didn’t want my kids to have issues with money like I used to have. I didn’t want them to have so much emotional pain inside of them like my sister had. I didn’t want them to struggle with relationships or happiness in general.

Then it occurred to me: all I can do and all any parent can do is their best. Our children are brought to us to be our teachers and we are theirs. They choose the parents who are the perfect fit for them, where they will have the most growth and be a perfect vibrational match.

Whether we trust ourselves or not, we have to trust that something far more intelligent and creative gave us these precious souls to look after for a reason. If we realize that we are the perfect parent to the special being that was given to us, we can relax knowing that all truly is well.

Whenever you do feel fear that you are going to “mess this up,” ask for guidance and the information will come to you regarding what you need on the next step of your journey with your child. Ask and it is always given.
